Mobile Broadband
Our offer and market position
Tele2 offers Mobile Broadband in all markets, except Kazakhstan. In addition to our postpaid offers, we have during the year continued the rollout of price leading prepaid offerings in Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Russia. We saw seasonal effects on customer intake with high sales during the summer, indicating that there is great potential for prepaid offerings to occasional customers who want to have convenient access to Internet while travelling or staying in their summer houses.
We are continuously upgrading our network capacity to 14 and 21 Mbps across the Group, in order to meet customers’ need for more bandwidth and speed. At the end of the year, we launched Mobile Broadband based on 4G technology in Sweden. That gives our customers access to Internet at speeds up to 80 Mbps when on the move. This will enable our customers to truly cut the cord and go mobile. The experience we have from rolling out 4G in Sweden will also be used as a differentiator in our other markets.
Our priorities
Mobile Broadband is the fastest growing mobile service. It is forecast to continue its expansion for the next coming years, as performance increases and customers find the service fit for all sorts of usage (including for instance video streaming).
A challenge for the industry is the pricing of Mobile Broadband access. Flat fee pricing has been a key driver behind the quick uptake of the service. At the same time, the ever increasing demand for bandwidth jeopardizes profitability. Therefore, we will see new price models on the market that better reflect the usage. This is a challenge for all operators facing increased data volumes, driven by both Mobile Broadband and the growing use of Internet via mobile phones.
