The environment, energy and product safety
Our impact on the climate
Climate change affects us all and we share a responsibility for reducing its impact on the environment. Besides bringing many social and economic benefits to society, the telecommunication sector offers possibilities for environmental and climate protection. In many cases, physical products and travel can be replaced by services, and Tele2 has an important role to play in helping organisations, companies and individuals to use resources more efficiently.Tele2’s most significant climate impact results from the greenhouse gas emissions the company produces when operating its networks or when heating, cooling and powering its buildings. Tele2 also produces greenhouse gas emissions through the use of its vehicle fleet and through business travel. Tele2 also affects the environment through visual intrusion from masts and antennas, and through the emission of electromagnetic fields from base stations and antennas.
Contributing to sustainable development does not only protect the environment, it also lowers costs and creates better business opportunities in the long run. We have identified four areas where we are confident that we can lessen our impact on the environment. These areas are:
- Energy consumption
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Waste management and recycling
- Visual intrusion from masts and antennas
Tele2 has just started measuring and reporting energy consumption and CO2 emissions. It is our aim for the coming years to widen the measurement scope and set targets for significant reductions of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Product safety
The boundaries between TV, the Internet and mobile phones are being erased. Tele2 works continuously to increase the safety of customers, children and adults when they use the Internet and mobiles, and combat online abuse in a number of ways. Our most relevant issues:
Sustainability policy
Tele2’s Sustainability Policy commits us to acting responsibly in regard to our business, products, people and the environment. Our approach is to do business in a responsible way and bring the benefits of communications to a wider audience.
Code of conduct
The Code of Conduct is a framework for Tele2’s employees concerning the conduct and attitudes that they should have towards customers, suppliers, public authorities, shareholders and colleagues.
Whistle-blower policy
The whistle-blower policy offers any employee or member of the public the possibility to openly or anonymously report suspected irregularities at Tele2.
